Chinampas revetment

These floating gardens are around 2000 years old. Originally they relied soley on the willows for retaining the sediment (that was brought in to the area, and dredged from the canals). Introduced fish have killed the trees in places and timber is now used to stabilise the banks (bit like Norfolk).
