Chris Brown: From R&B Star to Abusive Boyfriend and Accused Felon
Chris Brown has been formally charged with two felony counts; felony assault and felony uttering of criminal threats. The state of California could have charged the R&B star with a slightly more serious charge of felony domestic assault but did not feel it had enough supporting evidence.
It's official — Chris Brown has finally been charged by the District attorney in the alleged Feb. 8 beating of girlfriend Rihanna.
In early court proceedings this morning, the D.A. filed two separate counts against the award-winning singer: Assault By Means Likely to Create Great Bodily Injury and Making Criminal Threats.
The charges against Chris Brown stem from the February 8, 2009 assault on girlfriend Rihanna. Rihanna has reportedly been uncooperative with prosecutors which could be the reason California did not pursue a felony domestic assault charge.
Witnesses to the assault called 9-1-1. When police arrived they described finding Rihanna with "horrific" injuries and the incident reports state that she quickly and voluntarily identified Chris Brown as her attacker. Rihanna has never recanted these statements.
Chris Brown will appear in a Los Angeles courtroom at 3pm PST March 5, 2009, to answer the charges.
OK! has confirmed that Chris will definitely put in an appearance later today, likely around 3pm PT. It is also believed that the courtroom will be sealed off to the public and press at that time.
