NP Rank:
Chris Pine as Jack Ryan in Tom Clancy's Next Movie?
Chris Pine could become the next Jack Ryan in Tom Clancy's next movie. If Chris Pine takes the role, he will be the 4th star to play Jack Ryan, the CIA agent in Tom Clancy's novels.
The decision is not finalized yet, but Pine is expected to take the role. The project is still in early development. Producers Lorenzo di Bonaventura and Mace Neufeld are still working on the script by Hossein Amini. The film will be based on an original concept, rather than from Clancy's novels.
Jack Ryan first appeared in "The Hunt for Red October", starring Alec Baldwin in 1990. Harrison Ford was next in "Patriot Games" in 1992, and "Clear and Present Danger" in 1994. Jack Ryan's latest appearance was in "The Sum of All Fears" in 2002 played by Ben Affleck.
"Tom Clancy created an unforgettable character with Jack Ryan," Paramount Film Group president Adam Goodman said in a statement to Variety. "With Chris in this role, we've taken our first step in creating a re-boot that lives up to the successful lineage of the franchise."
The shooting time is still unclear. Chris Pine could be making another Star Trek sequel, where he played Captain James T. Kirk, before the Jack Ryan film. Pine is also in talks for "The Art of Making Money". Currently, he is working with Denzel Washington in "Unstoppable".
