In 1999, Christopher suffered the loss of his 25-year-old Linford when the car his son was driving hit a central reservation on the M11 and was killed instantly. Many said that Christopher never got over the loss. He admitted that he would often drink heavily when he was asked in an interview once.

He was married to Angharad Rees for 21 years and they not only had their son Linford but another son named Rhys. Ms. Rees and Rhys spent a lot of time at Christopher's bedside before he died.

He had been in a relationship with Isabel Davis for seven years.
