Chronicle Brings Found-Footage Concept to Super Hero Film

The first trailer for Chronicle, directed by Josh Trank and written by Trank and Max Landis, is a found-footage affair that chronicles (as it were) the lives of three teenage buddies who have somehow acquired super powers.

We see those powers start to grow, especially as one of them gets more powerful than the others. The thing feels sort of like meets Akira meets Hancock meets Cloverfield. The found-footage style of filmmaking is really hard to pull off: even The Blair Witch Project, which popularized the style, was only questionably successful at it.

Maybe calling this a "super hero film" isn't quite accurate: more like people with superhuman abilities who aren't so much trying to save the day as keep themselves and each other from wreaking havoc.

Chronicle is one of two films of the same name that comes out in February 2012. Check out the Chronicle trailer below. In case you're wondering, the song that they're playing on the car stereo is "Price Tag", by Jessie J. featuring B.o.B.
