This story is funny, but sad. Clowns are terrifying, at least they were to my kids. A real clown is like trickster figures in mythology. They can be nice, but you can't trust them, and kids hate that. The whole hospital in this story was plastered with clowns.

Clowns terrified me as a child. I know that's not the aim but they seem a bit malevolent, so I can understand why kids are scared of them. I wouldn't want one at my birthday party, that's for sure.

For some reason clowns never bothered me. Not clowns in particular anyway. However, it always freaked me out at birthday parties when the magician, or donkey, or whichever entertainer the parents rented that day, would single me out and blow whistles in my face. I was a sensitive kid, sure, but no one deserves that. No one.

I totally agree with this study. Clowns have done nothing but terrify me since I was a child.
I actually faced my fear last summer when I went and covered a clown convention/cours. It was very disturbing.

biverson, I like this story. a super read...I agree with martha...as a child I didn't like clowns, mimes or walking tall wooden puppets...either... animals make children smile and laugh!

biverson, the only clown I like as Kramer would say is Krusty the Clown, sad as it is Clowns just are not as funny as they used to be,hence will do anything to keep employed

One of my children hated clowns, while the other one never had a problem with them at all. Interesting article indeed. I've just uploaded half dozen (I think) photos also.

I guess I have bad feeling toward clowns... I mean.. I don't dislike them... I feel compassion or sad whenerver I see them.
Maybe that's why I feel sad toward mcdonald.
