The 44th Annual Academy of Country Music Awards (CMA) was held April 5, 2009 and American Idol winner Carrie Underwood was the center of attention. Carrie Underwood wowed in a hot red dress (one of many she wore that night) as she picked up two major awards; Entertainer of the Year and Top Female Vocalist.

The American Idol champ became only the seventh female to win the CMA’s top honor since it first began in 1970. She unseated four time winner Kenny Chesney.

“I've had a lot of good moments in the last four years. This one takes the cake! I don't know what to say! I got nothing,” she said.

Underwood also took home the Top Female Vocalist award.

It was a girls night at the CMAs.  Not only did Carrie Underwood rip the Entertainer of the Year award from Kenny Chesney's hands, but Taylor Swift cleaned up with a special recognition given to her by country music legend Reba McEntire and the Album of the Year award.

Taylor Swift is the youngest performer ever to win the CMA Album of the Year.  Bet whichever Jonas Brother dumped her is sorry now (OK, just kidding, I know it was Joe Jonas.)

Taylor Swift is the youngest ever winner of the ACM Award for Album of the Year. The 19-year-old superstar takes home the honors this year for 'Fearless,' her multi-platinum selling sophomore album.

See the Live Blog transcript of the CMA awards and pre-awards activity. (Without a doubt the most entertaining backstage coverage of the Country Music Awards I have ever read)

He was a big baby and would not perform when they put him on the small side stage during rehersal.

I don't know who the other nominees were for vocal duo were but ANYBODY would have to have been better than Sugarland.  That womans whiny voice is hideous.

You only wish you had her voice.  She can sing you under the table.

Obviously since you "don't know who the other nominees were for vocal duo were"  you really don't know what you're talking about anyways...so your opinion on this subject is totally useless.   Hope you're better at your day job.

I am a big fan of Tim Mcgraw and Faith Hill and I don't think it was right what they did too them.Tim Mcgraw has never ever been a whiner and in my book Tim and Faith are the Best in country music !

Who did what to him?  And obviously you've never seen the clip of Faiths fit when she found out she lost Female vocalist of the year to Gretchen Wilson.  Heard Tim walked out because he was going to be on the "smaller" side stage...out by the audience.  What's he afraid of, getting his crotch grabbed again, or maybe scared the smaller stage wouldn't support his ego.  I was glad to see Blake Shelton step up and play in his place, and Sugarland picked up the presentation spot left open by the 2 swelled heads.  Fans built Tim and Faith, they don't appreciate that they are where they are because fans paid too much for tickets, t-shirts, and CD's.  I think they have turned into country stars, with rap artists snooty attitudes.

I over heard on the radio about some comments that Toby Keith made at the last CMAs, does anyone know what that's all about, I remember the radio station mentioning something but when I went to there website they must have already removed it article.  Just be curious?

You don't know the difference between the ACMs and the CMAs?  Fail.
