I have seen the full color pic not just the silhouette and it doesn't look really all that bad. She's wearing a pink tunic and purple leggins and has ballet slippers for shoes. I don't consider it all that sexed up as some people make it out to be.
BUT!
Dora is supposed to be an adventurous girl, she's Dora The Explorer, not Dora the prissy high fashion princess. We already have Barbie for that, and don't even get me started on the Bratz dolls!
I think if they want to update Dora for older girls that's fine, I'm all for that. If toddlers and preschoolers outgrow the little Dora I think it's a great idea to give gradeschool girls a slightly older Dora whom they can identify with. I'm ok with the longer hair and tall lean look as well, that's how normal kids grow, they lose their chubby baby features. But put her in an "exploring outfit" for god's sake. She is supposed to be exploring the outdoors and far away places not the inner city. So, put her in a t-shirt, some khaki shorts and hiking boots or at least some jeans and sneakers. Give her an updated backpack and binoculars as accessories, she's not gonna get around in rough terrain too well with those ballet slippers.
Dora used to be all about geography, nature, animals and teaching kids about other cultures and how to speak some spanish. What's the new one gonna do? Teach girls how to shop for designer clothes and jewelry, give tips on applying makeup and nailpolish? Teach them valleygirl talk and text message abbreviations? We don't want another Barbie! Not all girls are the girly girl type, my daughter wasn't. Dora was filling the void for those girls who like to explore the outdoors, climb trees and not worry about the latest fashion craze, why take that away just because they get older?
I heard the new doll will have a USB port, what is up with that? Does every toy have to be able to hook up to the internet now? No wonder kids are getting fat, they don't get enough exercise because instead of taking their toys outside to play they are hardwired to the comp with them. What's next, G.I. Joe with a USB port?
