NP Rank:
CNN quick poll, a sign of the times
Memorial Day 2008, CNN has this quick poll on their website.
Is it a sign of the times that only 35% of Americans honor dead troops?
Do any of the 60% who relax and grill ALSO honor troops with a prayer or moment of silence during their holiday meal?
Is it growing dislike of the war that is causing is causing us to not reflect more on what our troops are doing for us? Sure, we may not like the war. Sure we may not like the commander who ordered our troops to battle, but the fact still remains that our troops ARE in harms way whether we agree with the reason or not. Should we all just disregard the troops and grill burgers, steaks and hotdogs?
Is this going to be another Vietnam when it comes to how our troops will be treated upon their return? It already is starting to be that way to some degree. They certainly don't seem to be getting the PTSD care they deserve.
I think this poll shows a very sorry trend in our country.
