‘Cocktail’ hit bull’s eye in terms of the film’s overall packaging. It has good music (Pritam), is shot in wonderful locations and has a dashing star cast who is seen wearing lust worthy attires. However, where it lacks is the basic script that is too predictable and mediocre. Homi Adajania who gave us ”Being Cyrus’ does try to give it a lift but cannot really do much apart from a few well-shot scenes here and there.

The film starts at a very slow pace with Gautam flirting with a Flight Attendant. And then enters Veronica, that’s where you know that the film will now pick up. And it does. Deepika Padukone plays her part most convincingly. It’s Saif who is not convincing as a guy who can make any girl fall weak in her knees. He is just okay in the film. Diana Penty makes a decent debut but seemed to be struggling in keeping up with the goody goody image that her character has in the film.

Dimple Kapadia plays the perfect Punjabi mom while Boman Irani does complete justice to his character. His and Dimple’s banter in the start is an interesting watch. Randeep Hooda makes a decent cameo. The rest of the supporting cast is okay.

On the downside, the film does not at any point give a fresh feel. Parts remind you of Tarun Mansukhani’s ‘Dostana’ and parts of Imtiaz Ali’s ‘Love Aaj Kal’. Yes, it has its own light hearted comic moments, a bit of righteous emotion that you relate to, and of course, some really hep songs, but overall it just remains to be an average watch. Watch it with a bunch of friends after sipping a cocktail.
