NP Rank:
Colbert in Baghdad for 'Operation Iraqi Stephen: Going Commando'
Stephen Colbert, the comedian and satirical host of The Colbert Report, will broadcast four episodes of his hit comedy show from Baghdad, Iraq next week in a series he's calling "Operation Iraqi Stephen: Going Commando".
Colbert said he's looking forward to "Bob Hoping" it up for US troops, after Assistant Defense Secretary of Defense Bong West suggested the trip after he appeared on The Colbert Report last July.
The Colbert Report's "Operation Iraqi Stephen" shows from Baghdad will air Monday through Thursday next week at 11:30 p.m. EDT on Comedy Central in the U.S. and the Comedy Network in Canada.
Colbert arrived at the former Al Faw Palace at Camp Victory on Friday. For weeks, he's promoted the trip on Comedy Central's "The Colbert Report," but because the military urged caution, he has only trumpeted a vague trip to "the Persian Gulf."
The series of shows, each to be taped in front of an audience of about 450 troops, have been dubbed "Operation Iraqi Stephen: Going Commando." It's the first time anyone has broadcast from Iraq for a USO tour.

I would never say that he wasn't very funny at times, but there is something decidedly off about him and Stewart, and they are about as far as you can get from being their generation's version of Bob Hope.
