Its totally the same

the verse has the same meter

the chorus is identical LOL

the chord changes in the verse are nearly identical JS's is IV VII III I and CP's is  VI VII III I, anyone with music theory knowledge knows that the first chords IV and VI are pretty much the same, only played different.

He has a strong case, but the guitar riffs are totally different in the verses from the singing.

This is bullshit. No one should be able to claim any combination of notes/chords as their own, especially something as simple as a 4-chord progression and a catchy melody. This lawsuit is bullshit, and Joe Satriani needs to get his head out of the clouds he's flying in and stop being so selfish and egotistical. Any musician should realize that there are only so many combinations possible and this can easily happen by chance, if not on purpose. Screw you Satriani, you don't own this progression or this melody.

Blue dream

lets cut the bullshit. To say that coldplays "Viva la vida" is not Joe Satriani's "If I Could Fly" is like saying the sky isn't blue.
