Fresh off a big night at the Grammy Awards that saw the group put on one of the best performances and win three awards including Song of the Year for Viva La Vida, the band has released the dates and cities for their massive 2009 summer world tour. The 52 stop tour will have the band playing the typical stadiums and arenas in the UK but going away from the norm in North America. The band plans on creating a festival atmosphere at their open air shows in North America which will see them play outdoor amphitheaters.

This is an ambitious move by Coldplay that is something from the book of bands like Phish and The Grateful Dead. Sure those bands created a festival atmosphere and Phish even want as far as creating their own 3-day festival with just them. Will Coldplay be able to succeed at this move? I think they will.

They have become arguably one of the biggest bands in the world. Last year they headlined festivals around the world and have sold out arenas on tours ever since Chris Martin melted our hearts while walking the beach in the Yellow video. They have a mix of bands playing with them along the way including Santogold, Jay-Z, The Killers, and brit rockers The Elbow.
