Apparently this is the band's way of helping its fans "who are struggling with the current economic crisis".

But it might be worth noting that the vast majority of Coldplay's fans have already been downloading their music for free - long before the apparent onset of this current financial downturn.

That said, it's still a nice gesture on the part of Chris Martin & co — one that is sure to be well-received and much appreciated.

Coldplay's Chris Martin has revealed the band are planning to release a live album for free this summer.

The band want to give the record away to fans as they attend their stadium gigs in September.

I normally don't think much of arena gigs - I much prefer the intimacy of a smaller venue. But even though my misgivings were well-founded when I saw Coldplay live in Bolton off the back of their X&Y album I thought that this time around, when I saw them at the new and very impressive Liverpool Arena, They were outstanding. The crowd was up for it, singing along at full volume and the hairs on the back of my neck stood on end more than once.
