Coldplay have found themselves at the center of a lawsuit brought against them by American guitarist Joe Satriani for plagiarism.

Satriani claims the band’s recent hit single, ‘Viva La Vida‘, ripped of his 2004 song ‘If I Could Fly‘.

According to BBC reports, Satriani claims that Coldplay’s song uses “substantial original portions” of his song.

Satriani is seeking a jury trial and wants “any and all profits” Coldplay have made from the track.

Viva La Vida‘ is a track off the band’s 2008 album  ‘Viva La Vida Or Death And All His Friends‘.

This isn’t the first time the track is claimed to have been ripped-off. Brooklyn indie band Creaky Board previously accused the band of knowingly copying the melodies of ‘Viva La Vida‘ with one of their songs.
