Caracas, Venezuela, Sunday 16 March 2008. Today, Colombian singer Juanes will be staging a concert for peace in Cucuta at the bridge which is on the common border shared by Colombia and Venezuela. This concert called "Peace without Borders "was proposed at the height of the crisis among Colombia, Ecuador and Venezuela  few weeks ago. Other international artists will be joining Juanes on stage such as Spanish singers Miguel Bosé and Alejandro Sanz, Ecuadorian Juan Fernando Velazco, Dominican Juan Luis Guerra, Colombian Carlos Vives and Venezuelan Ricardo Montaner.

According to Telesur, Colombian President Alvaro Uribe was initially expected to attend the concert but later cancelled.  The concert managers had asked him to abstain from attending as it was not a political rally.

PS: It has been estimated that more than 50.000 people attended the concert. There were very emotive calls for brotherhood among Colombia, Ecuador and Venezuela. Spanish singers Miguel Bose and Alejandor Sanz were greeted by the enthusiastic crowd too. They all share the stage wearing whte clothes and sang their old and popular songs together. All singers advocated for peace and against war in the region. Bosé promised to keep doing similar initiatives in the future.  Juanes stated that the destiny of a nation does not only depend on a government or a President. Juanes also called for the prompt release of Colombian hostages held by FARC. Venezuelan Ministry of Communication rejected as false information provided by Reuters on the closure of the Venezuela´s side of the frontier with Colombia during the concert. According to Telesur, the concert was back the Colombian govrnment despite having been organized privately.
