Comedian Tom Green Death Hoax: Prank Pulled by 4Chan Hack
In yet another incident of celebrity death hoaxes, Tom Green was reportedly killed after he was beat up by three men following a car accident.
According to the initial report, Green's Mercedes SUV struck a car towing lawn equiptment on Sunday. Three men then got out of the vehicle, dragged Green from his and beat him senseless.
Several blogs reported the comedian in "serious condition."
But it's a hoax. Green posted this on his website on Monday:
Hey gang. Just to set the record straight. Our website was hacked yesterday by the 4chan.org bastards! Damn you 4chan! They sent out a mass email and posted several erroneous stories online about my untimely demise. Turns out there is a prank website called www.fakeawish.com that creates these stories. These resulted in the much reported story last week of Jeff Goldblum falling off a cliff in New Zealand. He has since been on the Colbert report. Go tell those /b/ tards over at 4chan where to go!
Green recently completed his appearance on Celebrity Apprentice. He gained considerable celebrity in the late 1990s through his bizarre antics on MTV's The Tom Green Show.
Then he beat testicualr cancer and married Drew Barrymore. She divorced him and then he faded into the celebrity d-list, except in the Pacific Rim, where he's still remarkably popular. Not sure why, but...whatever.
This report is just one in string of recent hoaxes following the three-pronged-death media extravaganza that followed Ed McMahon, Farrah Fawcett and Michael Jackon. Soon after, false death reports of Jeff Goldblum and Harrison Ford were posted on Twitter and various blogs, followed by Miley Cyrus, Britney Spears, Ellen DeGeneres, Louie Anderson, P. Diddy, Natalie Portman, George Clooney, and Rick Astley in quick succession.
