For geeks and geeks-in-denial, Comic-Con 2009, the annual Comic Convention in San Diego, California, is the place to be.

This year the convention celebrates its 40th anniversary with special guests and programming to honor the convention's growth and history.

The number of attendees grew from 300 in 1970 to 126,000 in 2009. Today it is not just about comics, but also the latest movies and video games.

Comic-Con 2009 runs from July 23-26, 2009 at the San Diego Convention Center.

Some of the 2009 programming highlights include:

  • The Twilight sequel "New Moon"
  • Tim Burton's "Alice in Wonderland"
  • "Iron Man 2"
  • James Cameron's "Avatar"
  • Remake of '80s sci-fi classic "Tron"
  • "Green Hornet" starring Seth Rogen directed by Michel Gondry.
