Coming soon: Ninoy the brand
A new icon in Filipino pop culture it is said will be introduced soon. He is none other than - Ninoy Aquino, the late senator whose assasination sparked the peaceful 1986 EDSA People Power Revolt that overthrew the late former president Ferdinand Marcos.
Ask any Filipino about the late Sen. Benigno “Ninoy” Aquino Jr. and you are bound to get a plethora of answers: war correspondent, peace advocate, martial law icon, father of actress Kris Aquino, husband to former President Corazon Aquino and the name of our international airport. Had he been born in medieval times, Ninoy’s remarkable life and tragic death would have been immortalized in song and poetry and passed on from one generation to the next.
Twenty-five years after his murder, Ninoy the man is being reinvented as a pop culture icon for a younger generation of Filipinos that grew up learning about him only through history textbooks.
