Confederate Monument Denton, Texas: End Racism & Violent Military History In One Click

To all Detonites

A terrorist is defined as a person who uses violence against civilians to gain political ends. Keeping people enslaved is obviously one of the most vile forms of violence. On the Denton, Texas Square is therefore a monument to terrorists. The statue of the confederate solider on the square in Denton, Texas is nothing more than a standing ovation to the use of violence against innocents, and other oppressed minorities for economic and sociopolitical gain.

What obvious hypocrisy to show a heroic and benevolent looking solider, who's sole purpose was to kill others who wished to bring freedom to the oppressed?

Denton!

Is this what you stand for? Is this what you would have your tax dollars support? Take a good look!

The monument to blood also boasts two separate drinking fountains. Why? I have been told by reliable sources in the community who still remember the days of Jim Crow that the fountains were for white and blacks to drink form separately. Thus, this is not only a monument to blood, slavery, and torture, but also to the federal and state laws which upheld segregation after the bleated attempt to end race discrimination during the reconstruction period.

|UA| United Aid right here in Denton is diligently fighting on all fronts to make strategic moves against this offense to morality and justice! If you are interested in joining the movement contact Jason, jason_waite3@yahoo.com, who has worked ceaselessly to organize in our community.

There are five easy actions you can take against the existence of the fountain:

1) Call the chamber of commerce and tell them that "Racism is bad for business" |  940-382-9693 | 940-565-1919 | 940-382-9100

2) E-mail these persons that you will not be spending your money in downtown Denton until the issue of the racist statue is destroyed:

Where does it end, Jason? No more mention of the Confederacy or the elimination of any museum that holds its relics? I live in Denton and I suppose what bugs you (and others) is that its out there in the open. Personally, I feel like the flip side to getting rid of it is to be smacked in the face everytime you see it. Never again.

Those Confederate dead were largely small farmers, shopkeepers, tradesmen, etc and were someone's beloved. They answered the call of their government-no matter how ill-advised.

Frankly, your explanation is too easy. All of the racism and sordid history of the United States needs to be remembered. The monument is just an outward manifestation. I guess, then, that every monument to Confederate dead at Gettysburg, Antietam, Vicksburg and The Wilderness ought to be removed?

Chuck, take Jasons activism with a grain of salt. There is something profoundly wrong with this guy's personality, truely! If you knew of his career, you would know he does things almost completely for attention without thinking them through. I can assure you that he does not have even an average IQ. I am not trying to be mean or against the guy i have watched in astonishment.

Check him out:

The Texas Confederate Statue located in Denton, Texas that was erected by the United Daughters of the Confederacy and The Texas United Confederate Veterans has been under attack by the NAACP and by two college students that are currently attending the University of North Texas in Denton, Texas.  This issue of taking down the Denton Confederate monument has come up twice before in recent years.  We have contacted the Texas Historical Commission about the Denton Confederate Statue and found that the Denton Texas monument is protected in several different ways by State of Texas.  The County of Denton Texas or the City of Denton does not have a voice in the matter of the Denton Confederate Statue, but yet the decision falls under the jurisdiction of the State of Texas Historical Society.  The Denton Confederate Monument is protected through a lien placed on the Denton County Courthouse grounds due to a grant given to restore the old Denton courthouse and Denton courthouse grounds.  The Denton Confederate Statue is protected and considered a Texas Archeological Site and is also registered as a Texas Historical Landmark.  If for any reason the Denton Confederate Monument was taken down by the County of Denton or the City of Denton, the State of Texas would impose a fine of $1,000.00 per day until the Confederate Statue was replaced.  So, in other words the number of signatures a petition that is circulating for the removal of the Denton Confederate Statue is not relevant and will be ignored by the County of Denton, The City of Denton and the State of Texas Historical Society.

Texas Historical Commissionconfirmed that the monument is protected under several laws of the State of Texas:

 a)  All buildings that are serving or have served as the courthouse are protected under a statute entitled, "County Courthouses" in the Texas Government Code. All buildings  that are serving or have served as the courthouse are protected under a statute entitled, “County Courthouses" as described in the Texas Government Code, Title 4, Chapter 442, Section 442.008. Rules for implementing this law are found in the Texas Administrative Code, Title 13, Part 2, Chapter 17.2.

b)  The courthouse is protected by a fifty-year easement, conveyed to the THC by Denton County in 2003. c)  The Denton County Courthouse is a State Archeological Landmark (SAL) designated in 1981 and is therefore protected under the Antiquities Code of Texas.

Also, the confederate monument is a tribute to our ancestors who fought and died in the war.  This is part of American History and has shaped our existance today!  Go back to Mexico Jason!
