A terrorist is defined as a person who uses violence against civilians to gain political ends. Keeping people enslaved is obviously one of the most vile forms of violence. On the Denton, Texas Square is therefore a monument to terrorists. The statue of the confederate solider on the square in Denton, Texas is nothing more than a standing ovation to the use of violence against innocents, and other oppressed minorities for economic and sociopolitical gain.
What obvious hypocrisy to show a heroic and benevolent looking solider, who's sole purpose was to kill others who wished to bring freedom to the oppressed?
Denton!
Is this what you stand for? Is this what you would have your tax dollars support? Take a good look!
The monument to blood also boasts two separate drinking fountains. Why? I have been told by reliable sources in the community who still remember the days of Jim Crow that the fountains were for white and blacks to drink form separately. Thus, this is not only a monument to blood, slavery, and torture, but also to the federal and state laws which upheld segregation after the bleated attempt to end race discrimination during the reconstruction period.

Please provide some historical context here. Big difference between using violence against a Union soldier and an innocent civilian. If you can provide documentation of the particular unit the memorial represents commiting crimes against civilians, I'll sign the petition.

Duh, they are all over Texas and the southern U.S.! They are also considered historical art at this point and you have to have an act of the Texas Legislature to remove any of the ones in Texas!

Why stop with the Confedrate monument? If you are so offended by a memorial to soldiers of a nation who only existed 4 short years, the you must REALLY be upset to see all the monuments to Washington, Jefferson and all the founding fathers who were slave owners all there lives. and let's please do not stop there.........how about that "rag" of a flag we call Ol' Glory...........seems my history books here in South Georgia tells the tell of that it flew over slavery many, many more than 4 years.
Get a life and learn the REAL truth. I'm sure UNT does have atleast on book in the library that can shed light on your historical ignorance. I'll even give you something to think about while your looking.........
Slavery in this country was established in 1654 when Anthony Johnson of Northhampton County, VA convinced the courts that he was entitled to the lifetime services of John Casor, a negro. This was the first judicially approved enslavement for life of a negro in this country. Guess the race of Mr. Anthony Johnson.......thats right all you "edgeumocated" folks.......he was a NEGRO too!
If you highly educated individuals would spent more time expanding your knowledge and less time being offended this world.....and especially the USofA.....would be a much better place.

Expand your by reading "War Crimes Against Southern Civilians" and "North Across the River". These are 2 very historically accurate books that chronical the terrorist assualts on women and children by the Federal (United States) army during the War Between the States. You can also read "The Real Lincoln" to get the real truth about the tyrant.........the man who sent armed terrorist into a soverign nation to force, by means of violence, an independent nation of people to submit so he could gain political ends.

I called the Texas Historical Commission:
The monument cannot be moved or altered because the monument is protected several different ways:
1)The State if Texas has a “Texas Historical County Protection Easement” which included the statue.
2)The statue falls under the classification of “State Archeological Landmark”.
3)The statue is recorded as a “Texas Landmark”.
4)The Statue is protected under Texas Protection Act, Chapter 442 Sec. 008
If for some reason the statue was to me moved or replaced the State of Texas was levy a fine of $1000.00 per day.

Ummm, what? This is what america is all about, however I do not believe what the greys fought and died for neither did my family. I do however believe that we have the right to an opinion and the FREEDOM to stand up for what we believe in. Those men and boys fought for what thy thought was right at that time. This war devided families, a nation and the total morale of the entire country. I think that you are mis understanding the point of the memorial. It is honoring those who fought and died not what they fought and died for. We honor those who fought in viatnam do we not, and we had NO business being there what so ever. We will honor those who fight now even though a lot of Americans do not believe in this war. Read more about both sides of the story before you judge, it is called critical thinking and to be a great reporter you have to employ that tool.

This soldier stands for those that fought and died in service to the State of Texas,it was never and will never be any thing more or less.If you think it is there for a racial reason ,your very wrong.This Nation was founded on the concept of individual rights and to voice an opinion.If we take down all that we deem to be offensive,nothing will remain.Why is it that the minority refuse to adopt rational thought?
