Constitution Day: Icon for Freedom

This is the 222nd year in America's Constitution for freedom, at 3pm a bell will ring to mark the start of the Constitution week.

The Daughters of the American Revolution adopted a project in April 1955 to promote the observance of the United States Constitution with a memorial week beginning on the anniversary of its signing, Sept. 17, 1787.

Peter Johnson from UND Media Relations had said that patriotic music will be played over the carillon during the lunch hour, that's how the school will be marking Constitution week.

Donna Trosen, who chairs Constitution Week for the 39-member Grand Forks chapter of DAR, said some people still take the Constitution for granted.

Trosen had also said "people like Jay Leno will ask people about the Constitution on their TV shows, he'll have a history teacher on there, and they'll say they don't know. The Constitution is the world’s oldest constitution in use, our most important document and the least known in official observances. I'm proud that many people are able to speak their minds without repercussions."

The DAR said the Constitution, after 222 years, still is an icon of freedom.

Today, September 17th, is indeed a date that Americans should celebrate as both the true birth of the constitutional republic, and the new birth of freedom for millions of Americans that resulted from the horrific battle fought along the sluggish creek’s banks
