From February 18 to March 1, Vancouverites can explore a unique art installation and film festival at the northeast corner of Vancouver’s Library Square

Presented by Springboard in partnership with the Vancouver 2010 Cultural Olympiad, containR consists of recycled shipping containers which have been reconfigured.  Inside the reimagined containers, visitors can enjoy free screenings of Canadian and international dance, sport and performance films that celebrate physicality in art and sport.

“If there is one thing that unites dance and sport film-making, it is about giving structure to action,” explain cocurators Nicole Mion and Evann Siebens, “Both are driven by linking moments in rhythmic and expressive ways. There is a long history between movement and cinema. The early films of Edison and Muybridge are a testament to the powerful relationship between the body in motion and cinema.”

The festival runs February 18 – March 1, 2009 from 10:00 am – 8:00 pm (closed Mondays) at Vancouver Public Library, North Plaza which is West Georgia at Homer Street.  This event is free and accessible to audiences of all ages, check out the website www.containR.com for more information.

A film of mine, Match, is being shown in ContainR, but I'm in London and won't get to see the whole installation and programme.  I'm very grateful, therefore for these pictures to get a sense on what's going on.  I hope it's a big success.
