My friends are doing this project. They've curated a programme of sports art films and are screening them in a custom built solar powered mobile cinema made from reconstituted shipping containers. It will be located at the main library in Vancouver starting February 20. Go and see, I am going on Thursday.

Think of it as green cinema meets performance films. Recycled shipping containers are reconfigured to house free screenings of Canadian and international dance, sport and performance films that celebrate physicality in art and sport.

Presented by Springboard in partnership with the Vancouver 2009 Cultural Olympiad, containR is a street installation at the nexus of video, public art and urban design. Sited on the northeast corner of Vancouver’s Library Square, containR sits at the cross roads of mountain and urban culture; art and sport cinema, embracing public art and sustainable design.

There is a photo of this here on the site. Looks really cool!

I wish them the best of luck...

So that is what that is.

I'm not quite sure if this is relevant, but my "containr"-pics actually don't have anything to do with the containR film festival. It was just a little upcycling hand-embroidery project of mine, the motif referring to both recycling and web2.0/web culture matters :). Being from Germany, I admit I hadn't even heard of this festival before. It's a cool project, though, and I guess my pics do fit quite well, as both projects (though different in scale) have a focus on going green.

I didn't put them up but I must say they don't seem to look like the brightly coloured containers I mentioned that I saw in front of a circular building! :)

I was wondering about their significance too....Very nics pics though, I enjoyed them!

Thanks - I just got an email today with a request to post them here, which is totally fine with me :)! There are a few pics of 'the real stuff', too. You can view them by clicking the "See all footage" link or by skimming through the slideshow :)!
