Creating A Hit: 8 Hour Challenge

It started off as somewhat wacky challenge - create a top 40 pop song in 8 hours but Dan Bennett also known as Transit and Dave Wallace from Victoria, British Columbia were up to the task, literally.

The final product is at 6:05 and is available for download by right clicking the link below and clicking "save link as": http://www.innovateimageworks.com/lig...

Also! If you want to take a crack at remixing this song, here's a link to the acapella. The BPM is 130. Send me what you make and I'll make it a video response :)

The song they came up with is called UP. Decide for  yourself if it has Top 40 potential - UP certainly has a Top 40 sound and put a Katy Perry behind the mic and who knows where it could go.

There video that documented the creation of  UP was posted in late December and it has had over 385,000 views, not bad for two young lads being creative.

Dan Bennett, also known as Transit spoke to the CBC.

Even rock-legend Gene Simmons — who played bass for Kiss and now has his own recording label — contacted Wallace and Bennett. He offered the artists a music contract.

'I don't think I could stand myself if I had to sing in Autotune that much.'—Dan Bennett, musician

"He's looking for talent out of Canada," Bennett said, who also performs under the name Transit.

"It's very flattering, but we're not going to make pop music. I don't think I could stand myself if I had to sing in Autotune that much."
