Bangladesh opener Tamim Iqbal (112) slammed a ton while Nasir Hossain (73) scored a blazing half-century to help Bangladesh post 259 for 8 against Sri Lanka at Hambantota.

visiting Captain Angelo Mathews won the toss and put Bangladesh to bat first in the first ODI between the two sides.

The Sri Lankan bowlers struck early and at regular intervals to reduce the home side to 63 for three in the 13th over.

Opener Iqbal however, stayed on and put up two crucial partnerships to steady the ship. He added 66 runs for the fourth wicket with Mahmudullah and 75 runs for the fifth wicket with Hossain as Bangladesh went past the 200-run mark.

Sri Lanka pulled things back with three quick wickets to reduce Bangladesh to 211 for seven in 45 overs but Hossain remained unbeaten and played some attacking cricket to take the team total to 259 for 8.

Sri Lanka need 260 to win the first ODI against Bangladesh at Hambantota.
