India vs Pakistan’s third and last one day international match set to begin here in Indian capital New Delhi is of no significance. Pakistani team, having already won the series 2-0 so far is hoping a whitewash against its top opponent in the cricket world. If that happens, every player of the Pakistani cricket team will make fortune of sorts as Pakistani government and organisations will shower their players with expensive gifts, including plots in top Pakistani cities besides high-end cars.

Indian team on the other hand will be hoping to at least win this last match to show to the world that it has a fighting spirit and that it can come out of defeats with flying colors. But it is not easy a task as it may seem. Indian team is completely down and out and has repeatedly shown that despite having great capabilities, it somehow fails to capitalise on its strengths.
It has top class batsmen who can singlehandedly win the game for their team when things seem to be going their way. But in recent months we have been witness to their rather poor display of cricketing abilities and discretions.
One area where Indian team hopelessly lacks is firepower of its bowlers. Till some time ago the team was a leader in spin bowling. But that same team that used to get spin pitches to help its bowlers has seen its opponents exploit the pitches in their favour and host bowlers failing to contain opposition and take wickets. The same happened against England in the test series and now the very same is happening against Pakistan. While Pakistani spinners like Saeed Ajmal and Hafeez are using the Indian pitches to their favour, Indian bowlers are repeatedly failing to do the same.
The less said about Indian fast bowlers, the better. Ishant and Dinda have repeatedly failed to give India the break the team needs in the first few overs. Pakistani pacers in contrast have taken wickets in the very first overs of the matches giving a headstart to their team against arch rivals. Junaid, Mohammad Irfan and a tested warhorse Umar Gul have all contributed with the ball to give an edge to their team.
Pakistani batsmen have also played better than the Indian batsmen. The young Nasir Jamshed has proved a formidable opening player throughout the series and has scored runs consistently in almost every match. In contrast no Indian batsman has been performing so consistently like him.
Meanwhile in the last match, there are further signs of trouble for the Indian team. Captain Dhoni is reportedly doubtful for last ODI against Pakistan due to severe back pain. “It’s important for us to prepare for the next series. We will feature our best eleven for the match.” Dhoni though backed under fire coach Duncan Fletcher, saying that coaches only had a limited role and it was up to the players to perform on the field. “Players need to take responsibility. Coaches can only do so much, it is the players who would finally have to perform on the field. The utmost responsibility lies with an individual,” he said. He rued the fact that the Indian team had failed to put pressure on the visiting Pakistan team and said that the entire team as a unit had failed to fire. “This series we haven’t batted well. In the earlier series sometimes our batsmen would do well and sometimes our bowlers. As a combined unit we have failed to perform.” Dhoni shrugged off questions on the growing pressure over his status as the captain of team. “If I started taking pressure after every match and listened to everything the media and the others had to say, I would have crumbled by now,” he commented. There is sort of panic in the Indian camp prior to the beginning of the match.
