A CULTURE OF VIOLENCE KILLED CHRISTOPHER LANE AND TRAYVON MARTIN
Christopher Lane did not deserve to die a violent seneseless death. Trayvon Martin did not deservie to die a violent senseless death. Those that say guns do not kill people, people kill people are right. A culture of violence contributes to the death of so many.
In my article last month about the Zimmerman acquitted; I said that if we do not value the lives of African American youths; they will not value ours. I did not know it would come around so quickly but the murder of Christopher Lane is a prime example. We in the black community must do all that we can to curb the anger that our youth turn inward aganist each other and sometimes outward at society at large.
It is reported that last month one of the youth posted that he hates white people on-line. Last month, July 2013 was also the time that a jury founded George Zimmerman innocent of killing Trayvon Martin. Do not doubt for a minute that Edwards and Chancey Luna and Michael Jones was not watching Trayvon being put on trial for his own murder. Do not think for a minute that the outcome of no one being held accountable for the murder of Trayvon Maring and others black men when the killer is white or close enough did not affect the hearts and minds of the Luna and Jones of this world. They are watching and waiting for the big pay back. I pray that the we in the black community can direct their energies towards positive goals and faith in a God that is just. Church has always been a haven in the black community, lets again use it to meet and discuss our stragety for our survival and the survival of our children.
It is reported that the teenagers Edwards and Chancey Luna and Michael Jones wanted to be gangsters; that they posted pictures on line with guns and cash. In America, where freedom of speech allows multimillion dollars record companies to promote music that deteriorates respect for self and others what do we expect? Boycott African American bashing music. Too many rappers can not read of write but are allowed to be the voice of our community. Can rappers in China make a song and have it played over and over on the radio that says, “get your guns or money over hoes”. We as a people are also to blame; we must wake up and take responsiblity for our children. Where are the checks and balances in the music industry?
Where were their parents, some asked accusingly? They were at work. Mothers and Fathers I know that it seens overwhelming in a culture that says both parents must work. Single mothers doing the best that you can, I know it is hard when you are blamed for men walking away as if you could force a man to stay. Most parents are trying to make a living during the daytime hours. Who is watching the children? No one, that’s who. We need grandparents, aunts, uncles, neighbors to band together to save the children. Our ancestors knew that it really does take a village to raise a child. We can’t have it both ways, mothers can not be in two places at one time. As a country we need to stop this insanity and do all we can to assist paretnts. In a country that have money for wars but no money for community centers, we must question our values.
No one cared about these young men future, Edward, Chenacey and Michael until they killed a white man. Now their fate is conversation. Now we see them. We should have a conversation about at risk youth before this happens again, Black America that don't want to lose anymore children to prisons. We do not need anymore Christopher Lanes.
Those that are comparing this case to Zimmerman case forgot one important fact. These young men are going to prison.
