The American Family Association (AFA), who claims to stand for "traditional family values", is targeting Pepsi for its pro-homosexual support.

The AFA, in an Action Alert to its more than two-million members, urges supporters to sign an online pledge to boycott Pepsi products and to call the company to tell it “to stop promoting the homosexual agenda.”

“PepsiCo has refused a request by AFA to remain neutral in the culture war,” the Action Alert said.

“In the last two years, Pepsi has given $500,000 to the Human Rights Campaign and $500,000 to the Parents, Families and Friends of Lesbians and Gays. The $1,000,000 was to be used to help promote homosexuality in the workplace,” the AFA said.

“Pepsi refuses to give money to any pro-family organization that opposes the homosexual agenda. Plus, every homosexual organization we know of is overwhelmingly pro-abortion,” according to the Action Alert.

Previous AFA boycotts include McDonald's, Disney, Cincinati based Proctor&Gable, Kraft, and Ford automakers in 2005. The AFA claimed success in the McDonald's boycott when McDonald's agreed to end its support for the National Gay and Lesbian Chamber of Commerce, and claimed a victory when Ford began pulling its ads from LGBT publications.

Thank you to everyone who read, commented, and/or recommended this story. If any reader would like to thank PepsiCo for its continued support of the GLBT Community, please call PepsiCo's customer relations line at 1-800-433-2652, and let them know that you will not participate in the boycott. Thanks!

I find it disturbing that this organization receives a non-profit status for its obvious discriminatory practices, which technically makes it ineligible for such status.

The IRS should review their constant attacks on people's fundamental rights as a direct violation of their non-profit privileges.  ...just sayin'....

I am sick and tired of the public criticizing the Christian organizations for attempting to educate them on homosexual behavior and their lifestyle.  Our point of view is not ours, but what the Lord says in His word.  Please read 1 Corinthians 6:9.  This "LIFESTYLE" is an abomination unto the Lord not the PEOPLE who choose to live it.   God created man & woman to propagate the faith---a little impossible for gays and lesbians.  Their choice of lifestyle is not natural and should not be accepted as such.  Marriage for such a union is ridiculous.  They are friends who choose to live together--period--with no special tax breaks or considerations.

Pepsi forces their employees to attend sexual orientation classes and gender indetity diversity training where they are taught to accept homosexuality.  This is a infringement on their rights as I see it and a mild form of brain washing.  There is no Christian organization that I know of that confines groups of people and forces the biblical principles on them.  We are not infringing on the rights of other human beings.  We are just trying to help them save their soul from eternal damnation.

A comment was made that money is the basis of religion.  How are we making money with the belief that marriage is based on the union of a man & a woman?  If a comment is being made, please make sure that it makes sense and as Christians, we are not discriminating against anyone.  We believe in the Word of God and He says that homosexuality is a sin.  If there is any discriminating going on, it's from the people make these comments which are based on ignorance.

You guys are so funny!  lol What bible do you quote from anyway?  Did I miss the New Gay International Version?

If the pro gay groups aren't "special interest"  what in the world do you think they are?

That is a great many products they may have to Boycott, Well I do boycott most of them my self, but not for the same reasons at all. My reasons are environmental and Ethical Treatments of their Workers. Thank you for the Post here Rhonda. I would not support the AFA on that, and I do believe they should remain neutral.

No its not homosexual pepsi its marketing to people regardless of their backgrounds with the assumption that everyone has the right to an identity and to be happy. In america were supposed to be secular and these religious people have to be stopped.

Young men and women kill themselves all the time, because people like these jerks. Money is the basis of religion. Religious people awnt to make money.....and if everyone is allowed to be ok then these religious people look like idiots and their money making scheme becomes fragile so they want to make the corporations fall in line.

And yes Allen Ginsburg wrote about being in France in the 50s seeing interracial couples with no problems at all. I'm so fed up with the backwards B.S. in this country. People came here for freedom and yet we dont give civil rights to everyone, we dont provide for everyone, and we go around starting wars to make money. It's nauseating.

Screw these people infrining on the rights of other human beings. Gay rights is the last civil rights issue (aside from illegal immigrants) and its about time we fix it.

I would hope that the AFA could find better things to do with their time.

Let's boycott the AFA.

It always makes me laugh that the most religious upright people can sometimes be the most hateful racist people.

Who really listens to these kinds of groups anyways, if you like the product you buy it regardless of what groups say!

0
Barry Artiste

The AFA? Who listens to them anyway? Certainly not Pepsi! Anyone who listens to special interest groups certainly never has the majority consumer interest in mind!

Trish, though you have a valid point, I would also like to point out that in Corinthians 6:9 under Lifestyle,  Ricardo Montalban spokesperson for Chrysler also stated that the pleasure of Driving a Chrysler product wrapped in Rich "Corinthian" Leather is a lifestyle we all can enjoy, not just the straight people. I notice the AFA didn't Boycott Chrysler!   So when quoting the Bible, in future please include the entire text, not just what you choose to include.

So, do I understand you correctly?  Do you truly view Gay people as a whole seperate race?

Rhonda J Mangus

sweetromance2, not as a separate race, rather as a culture. Thanks for reading and commenting!

1 Corinthians 6:9 . . .Trish, it seems this covers waaaaaayyyyyy more than Gay.

"Or do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God?Do not be deceived; neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor homosexuals, nor thieves, nor the covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor swindlers, will inherit the kingdom of God. "

I would put special emphasis on the word "revilers" . . which means to use abuse language.  Meaning if you have EVER verbally condemned someone in a sanctimonious fervor . . well, then kiddo, you're in the mix with the rest of us.  I am in the "fornicator" subset, just for honesty's sake. And I personally think god is more concerned with whether or not I'm kind to people than whether or not I have a ring on my finger.

As to Sweetromance2, I agree . . "pro Gay groups" are "special interest."  They are of "special interest" to those of us who believe in equality and civil rights for all Americans.

Something about the aggressive nature of the article didn't sit well with me, and has weighed on my heart over the last few days to see so many people jump so eagerly to the scapegoat that the afa has chosen for the time being. It is a highly focused attack that disregards several other key factors in the episode's airing. The afa's website's "About Us" link quotes,

"...The American Family Association represents and stands for traditional family values, focusing primarily on the influence of television and other media – including pornography – on our society. AFA believes that the entertainment industry, through its various products, has played a major role in the decline of those values on which our country was founded and which keep a society and its families strong and healthy. We believe in holding accountable the companies which sponsor programs attacking traditional family values..."

I am curious to know where the reminder is that the Fox network rated the pertinent episode TV-14 DLSV (unsuitable for those age 14 and under. (D)ialogue, (L)anguage, (S)exual situations, and (V)iolence.) According to their mission statement, a tv network would be a better target. It's also unfortunate to any perceptive christian that the newsletter's approach was not one of prayer and compassion. I tend to keep a "question everything" attitude, and constantly try to see one step past my or others' initial reactions, especially when prompted to take specific action by third parties. If we all boycott pepsi, but watch Fox, all we've done is answer the call of latest OOH SHINEY afa newsletter. Still, I don't agree with Pepsi's declaration to stand for encouraging homosexual behavior.

"One of America's favorite soft drink brands has donated more than a million dollars to homosexual groups – and refuses to give to organizations opposes to homosexuality, one group claims." http://74.125.47.132/search?q=cache:w_XTaLUlG74J:www.worldnetdaily.com/index.php%3Ffa%3DPAGE.view%26pageId%3D85632+pepsi+supports+homosexual&cd=1&hl=en&ct=clnk&gl=us&client=firefox-a

If we do what they want, they might start getting funds from Pepsi?

I agree that we should strongly and directly discourage sin in any form. The afa's approach is passive aggressive. 'Maybe by not buying Pepsi they'll lose enough money and stop biasing their charity.' It's a solution that can possibly work in the predictable way of combating immorality that the afa is accustomed to. It may prevent exposure to controversial material, but provides no witness or personal interest into the lives of those who are lost in the specific fruitions of homosexuality, and I don't think it's possible to win that battle without God's promises that many of us know all too well, but are foreign to many who suffer in sexual sin of any kind. Why would a person try to change for any other reason? The world is of sin, and it's a train that is constantly accelerating. I remember the Simpsons came out - it was controversial, but today's controversial equivalents liken it to "Leave it to Beaver."

When we fight the sin through a proxy, like the AFA, it's easy to hate the sin, but forget the sinner. This afa campaign feels like road rage, where all you see is cars. The best way to go is through personal interaction, planting seeds, and let the Lord speak to others' hearts in the same way he's spoken to many of yours and mine. This will go WAY further than switching to Publix brand soda! Christians often support each other with love and compassion, and I believe we should provide no less to those lost in a different kind of sin for which we are not familiar.

I simply disagree with the afa's approach in this campaign. I think it's spiritually ineffective and makes Christianity seem unwelcoming and distant, which is what I have a problem with. I DO however agree with it's claim and mission, and I don't want my kids to see junk on tv. I would eagerly give up a drink to reduce junk on tv if I thought it would work. The way things are going now, if your first goal is to protect the eyes of impressionable children, the control has to come from within the home.

Thank you for the page space, and sorry about the length I was recently confronted about my faith by an avid AFA follower, and given a hellfire and brimstone speech, felt alienated and needed an outlet. Thanks again
