New York City celebrates itself on  the weekend of October 13 and 14 with  the 7th annual CultureFest NYC 2007.  Manhattan is host to the event in Battery Park at the lower tip of the island.  Visitors to the festival are treated to an almost overwhelming array of diversity in every venue imaginable.

The celebration is an opportunity for the cultural institutions and organizations in the city to inform and demonstrate what they have to offer.   Even a dyed in the wool New Yorker is amazed at the number of museums, theater companies, educational and historical entities that the Big Apple has to bite into.

Booths with wares, samples and information line the shaded pathways of Battery Park providing a day full of family cultural entertainment and educational activities on this crisp Autumn weekend.  Many types of food can be purchased and there are goodie bags and freebies from Amish to Zen!

Everyone, young and old can enjoy and participate in art lessons, crafts, dance and song,  offering an opportunity to show off one’s artistic abilities.   Children especially will get off on the many arts and crafts, scientific demonstrations, shows and other fun cultural activities available to them.

Along with the city’s museums and established organizations, there is even a pathway devoted to local artists, photographers and craftsmen.  Russian nesting dolls, jewelry and other hand made items are available to purchase, or you can have your portrait drawn by one of the many street artists, all before the back drop of New York Harbor and the image of the goddess Columbia herself, The Statue of Liberty.

Two full stages with ample seating offer a chance to relax under the trees and enjoy the variety of musical theatrical, and cultural performances New York is home to.  One stage is a family friendly kid’s stage where kids of all ages can spend the day listening  to and watching entertainment geared toward the young and young at heart.

CultureFest NYC 2007 is free and open to the public in Battery Park City for one more day, Sunday October 14.  There is no better way to spend a Sunday in Manhattan and one need not need spend money  to look, learn, listen, enjoy and bring home some culture and fond memories.

phillipnyc, you've convinced me you've done the work - it's authentic. I also think that you've been fair and thorough. I didn't get the sense that you were hiding your biases, or passing off other's work as your own. Or worse -- getting paid by those you cover -- so it's transparent and independent. I also think you deserve praise for being an eyewitness, and for your investigative efforts, and for making me miss NYC. Good stuff.
