Da Brat gets 3 years for Hallowe'en assault
Rapper Da Brat pled guilt to assaulting a waitress at Jermaine Dupri's Studio 72 on Hallowe'en 2007. The rapper was accompanied to court by family members who burst in to tears when the sentence was announced. Along with 3 years behind bars Da Brat was also given 7 years probabtion and 200 hours of community service.
The Hallowe'en night assault, in which Da Brat struck a woman in the face with a rum bottle leaving the victim permanently scarred, was not the rappers first violent run in with the law. In 2000 she was accused of beating a female patron with a gun in the VIP lounge of a Buckhead, Georgia bar. The victim of that attack was also left with permanent scars. Da Brat was never convicted of assault in that case, pleading to the lesser charge of reckless conduct in exchange for a lighter sentence.
Harris had pleaded guilty to felony aggravated assault, a charge stemming from a serious physical altercation that happened last Halloween during a party at Jermaine Dupri's Studio 72 nightclub just outside Atlanta. According to reports, Da Brat got into a heated confrontation with one of the club's waitresses and was accused of striking the woman in the face with a bottle of rum, causing numerous cuts on her face.
The waitress was taken to a hospital for treatment. Police said the Halloween attack wasn't the first time Da Brat and the victim were involved in a physical altercation.
It looks like the nightclubs in the great state of Georgia just got a little safer now that Da Brat will be behind bars!
