DWTS - Season 9 - Aaron Carter & Karina second dance (Quickstep)

The second week of competition on “Dancing with the Stars” brought a surprise, judge Len Goodman was absent and temporarily replaced by Baz Luhrmann, the director of films such as "Romeo & Juliet" and  “Moulin Rouge.”

So what did Baz Luhrmann and the other DWTS judges think of the performances of Monday night's show.

Here's a quick DWTS Season 9, Week 2 recap:

Joanna Krupa and Derek Hough Performed a high-energy jive dance. Luhrmann questioned the chemistry between the dancers.

Score: 20

Natalie Coughlin and Alex Mazo Performed a quick step. Carie Ann complemented the duo while Bruno said Natalie needed to relax.

Score: 21

Chuck Liddell and Anna Trebunskaya Performed a tango. The judges said Liddell was a little bit too intense but remained a contender.

Score: 19

Melissa Joan Hart and Mark Ballas Jr. Performed a jive while wearing red and white polka dot costumes.  Judges noted that Hart has improved, but still needs to work on her footwork.

Score: 19

Michael Irvin and Anna Demidova Performed a quick step. Judges noticed a huge improvement in Irvin's performance and rewarded him with a solid score.

Score: 20

Debi Mazar and Maksim Chmerkovskiy Performed a tango. Judges praised her theatrics, but said she needed to work on her arm movements.

Score: 21

Louie Vito and Chelsie Hightower Performed a jive. Baz loved the energy while other judges felt the snowboarder might have gone overboard.

Score: 19

Aaron Carter and Karina Smirnoff Performed a Muppet-inspired dance. Judges raved about the performance, giving it rave reviews.

Score: 27 (tied for 1st place)

Kelly Osbourne and Louis van Amstel Performed a tango. Judges noted a few missteps, a letdown from last week's solid performance.

Score: 19

Kathy Ireland and Tony Dovolani Performed a quick step. Judges said the dancers needed to be more engaged and energetic.

Score: 18 (tied for last place)

Mark Dacascos and Lacey Schwimmer Performed a quick step. Dacascos fell early, but made a quick recovery, something the judges admired.

Score: 21

Mya and Dmitry Chaplin Performed a jive. Judges raved about the dance, with one judge comparing Mya to Josephine Baker.

Score: 27 (tied for 1st place)

Tom Delay and Cheryl Burke DeLay nearly fell over when Burke jumped into. Judges admired the effort but still noted DeLay's obvious lack of technique.

Score: 18

Donny Osmond and Kym Johnson Performed a jive. Dressed is Austin Powers-esque velour suit, judged complemented the 51-year-old's performance and athleticism.
