"The Dark Knight" dominated the People's Choice Awards on Wednesday, taking home five awards.

The much-lauded Batman film took home awards for a number of "favourites" including: favourite movie, favourite action movie, favourite cast, favourite on screen match-up (Christian Bale and Heath Ledger), and favourite superhero (Bale as Batman).

On accepting the award for 'fave superhero', winner Christian Bale dedicated his award to deceased actor Heath Ledger, for his riveting portrayal of 'The Joker' in the film.

The movie, which won high praise and acclaim from critics and fans, won the award for favorite movie, favorite action movie, favorite cast, favorite on screen match-up (Christian Bale and Heath Ledger) and favorite superhero (Christian Bale as Bruce Wayne/Batman).

"Here's to Heath," Bale said after accepting the award, referring to his co-star, who died of an accidental drug overdose in January 2008.


Earlier this week, The Dark Knight was also nominated for both the 20th Producers Guild Awards and the 2009 Writers Guild Awards Award. for best Adapted Screenplay — but it's still unknown if the Academy will consider Batman worthy of being nominated for an Oscar.


"The Dark Knight" has bagged another prestigious awards' nomination. After collecting a nod for its producers from the 20th Producers Guild Awards, the superhero movie starring Christian Bale and Heath Ledger earned a 2009 Writers Guild Awards' count for its writers from the Writers Guild of America on Wednesday, January 7.
