'The Dark Knight Rises' Set Photos: Lazarus Pits?
Will Ra's al Ghul's Lazarus Pits Feature in The Dark Knight Rises?
Let's get geeky. Photos of the Jodhpur, India set of Christopher Nolan's The Dark Knight Returns have emerged. That was pretty quick, since May 6 was the first day of shooting. None of the Dark Knight Returns set pics featured on ScreenRant show any of the actors, but we get to see a massive hole in the ground (those specks next to it are crewmembers).
ScreenRant notes that the hole may be one of R'as al Ghul's Lazarus Pits, which the eco-terrorist used to rejuvenate himself in the Batman comics. That's slightly problematic for Nolan's Batman trilogy, since it's so far been based, if not exactly in reality, in a non-magical world. Batman's physical abilities are not superhuman, and the Joker's disfigurement was frighteningly pedestrian rather than the result of a fall into day-glo toxic waste.
It could be that the massive hole in the ground will be meant for something else, but we know that The League of Shadows will figure into the third and final film in Nolan's trilogy. We know that Josh Pence will play a young R'as al Ghul, and it's likely that Marion Cotillard's character will be his daughter, Talia al Ghul.
Also, we know that Catwoman and Bane will appear, played by Anne Hathaway and Tom Hardy. According to IGN, Joseph Gordon-Levitt's character, still unnamed on IMDB, will be a cop named John Blake, who is assisting James Gordon in his "hunt" for Batman.
