Poppy seeds can lie dormant for many years buried deep in the earth. After the first world war, the earth had been disturbed so much that the seeds started to grow and filled the fields with bright red Poppies. Many people saw this as a symbol of new life whereby the poppies represents the fallen souls of soldier. Artificial poppies are now sold by the British Legion on remembrance day to remember not just the sacrifices made in the first world war but in all wars.
