NY artist Dash Snow has died of a drug overdose at the age of 27.

Word got out after artist Earsnot, aka Kunle Irak, posted a message on Twitter reporting that Snow had died. According to the New York Times, Dash Snow's death was confirmed by his grandmother, noted art collector Christophe de Menil.

Dash Snow was a central figure in New York's downtown art scene. His work had appeared in The Royal Academy in London, the Whitney, Deitch Projects, and the Saatchi Gallery in London.

Dash Snow received as much attention for his life as his work. Snow claimed that he didn't have a phone or an e-mail account. He also claimed to have shot photos with a camera he made out of "wood, palm leaves and cocaine." 

One of his known works was a piece that consisted of a copy of New York Post covered with his own semen. He also tried to sell his own cocaine on eBay.
