DAVE DEE has lost his fight with cancer and died aged 65.
Dave Dee was lead singer with legendary 60's pop group Dave Dee, Dozy, Beaky, Mick and Titch who had huge hits with songs such as The Legend of Xanadu, Zabadak and Bend It!
In the late 60's the band spent more time in the UK charts than The Beatles.
Dave who later went on to be a top record executive with A&M (where he famously signed then sacked The Sex Pistols) and others was still performing with Dozy et al in the months leading up to his death.
Dave had been fighting cancer for the last 3 years
British pop star Dave Dee has died at the age of 65, following a three-year battle with cancer.
The singer continued playing gigs with band members Dozy, Beaky, Mick and Tich until close to the end of his life, record plugger Sean Cooney said.
"He didn't let it get him down. He was defying it," Mr Cooney added.
The group had eight top 10 hits, including a UK number one single in 1968 with The Legend of Xanadu, in which Dee famously cracked a whip.
A spokeswoman for the family said that Dee died in Kingston Hospital, south-west London on Friday morning following "a long and courageous battle" with cancer.

The Legend of Xanadu and The Wreck of the Antoinette were some of the earliest records I ever owned - ex-juke box.
There oddest bit of English pop was I think this The Loos of England

I am saddened to learn this.
I have been a musician all my life, thanks to the many great songs which moved and inspired me when I was a child.
I remember wondering how the hell they did that complicated mix on "Xanadu".
I still do.
May he rest in peace.

That mix is good - I also like the intro to the Wreck of The Antoinette "Full fathom five, on the seabed she lies, the wreck of the Antoinette"
