The Dave Matthews Band is reeling from the unexpected loss of one of the group's founding members, saxophonist LeRoi Moore, who died Tuesday at the age of 46.

The following statement has been posted on the band's website:

We are deeply saddened that LeRoi Moore, saxophonist and founding member of Dave Matthews Band, died unexpectedly Tuesday afternoon, August 19, 2008, at Hollywood Presbyterian Medical Center in Los Angeles from sudden complications stemming from his June ATV accident on his farm near Charlottesville, Virginia.
According to reports, Moore had been hospitalized and was recovering from the June accident when he died.
Moore was taken to Hollywood Presbyterian Medical Center in Los Angeles, California, and had been rehabilitating at his L.A. home after the June 30 accident at his farm outside Charlottesville, Virginia.

The Dave Matthews Band was formed in Charlottesville in 1991 by Matthews, drummer Carter Beauford and Moore, an established saxophonist in the local music scene.

But the show must go on and the band continued with a performance in Los Angeles on Tuesday:
The group went ahead with a scheduled show Tuesday night at the Staples Center in Los Angeles. Jeff Coffin, saxophonist for Bela Fleck and the Flecktones, has been sitting in for Moore since Moore's accident.

Matthews announced the death of the band's "dear friend" to the crowd.

Photo taken Saturday, June 28, 2008 at Nissan Pavilion in Bristow, VA. This show was the last one LeRoi Moore (pictured on large screen behind band) ever performed with the Dave Matthews Band.

If you close your eyes,
Cause the house is on fire.
And think you couldn't move,
Until the fire dies.
The things you never did,
Oh, cause you might die trying,
Cause you might die trying.
You'd be as good as dead,
Cause you might die trying,
Cause you might die trying.

I I am totally stunned and really sad. I really have been thinking of this song all day and what I need to do in my life! R.I.P. Roi

I took this photo at the Mile High Music Festival on June 20,2008. That evening Dave made a comment on Leroi's health, and he sent his good thoughts to him. Also filling for Leroi that night was Bela Fleck & The Flecktones saxophonist Jeff Coffin.
