Film producer and former Oscar nominee David Brown has died at the age of 93. He died in his Manhattan home after suffering from long-term illness. Brown's notable achievements in film included "Jaws" and "The Sting." Brown is also credited with having a formative role in the early film career of Steven Spielberg who created "The Sugarland Express" for Brown's Zanuck-Brown production company. Spielberg then went on to direct "Jaws" which Brown produced.

Brown died at his Manhattan home on Monday after a long illness, according to the Hearst Corp. Brown was the husband of Helen Gurley Brown, the longtime editor of Cosmopolitan, a magazine owned by Hearst.

Brown was a four time Oscar nominee for his work on "The Verdict," "A Few Good Men," "Jaws," and "Chocolat." His working partnership with Richard D. Zanuck for their Zanuck-Brown company lead them to win the Living G award. This award is given by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences for having a high-caliber producing career. Brown was married to Helen Gurley Brown, a longtime editor of the prominent Cosmopolitan magazine.
