David Eddings, fantasy writer best known for series like The Belgariad and The Malloreon, died last night at age 77.
Eddings, born in Spokane, WA, wrote fantasy with a modern feel, working with his wife and writing partner Leigh Eddings, who had passed away in 2007.
ALready keen to write, Eddings was inspired to channel his creative energies toward the fantasy genre when he saw that Lord of the Rings was in its 78th printing.
. Eddings, who bore the distinction of always writing his books out long hand, was quite frank about the position of his books - there to make reading fun for people. He noted in an interview with Reed Magazine that once readers were no longer challenged by his books that they were free to then move onto “somebody important like Homer or Milton.”

He seemed like a humble man. I like long hand my self better as well, however not yet compatible with computers.

I'm so sad to hear that Eddings passed away. His stories were timeless and will be cherished.

Eddings is the greatest fantasy writer ever to have lived.
See you around, neighbour.
