After being dismissed for 465, the tourists have snared the scalps of Peter Fulton, Hamish Rutherford and Ross Taylor to leave New Zealand 66 for three in reply.

England wicketkeeper Matt Prior says they finished the day with their tails up.

Prior says those late wickets were vital and he's taking his hat off to the bowlers.

Earlier, left-arm spinner Bruce Martin was New Zealand's leading performer with four wickets and he says removing Kevin Pietersen for 73 was a highlight.

He says it was tough bowling against the towering batsman because he can get back and forward in the crease with ease.
