Death Magnetic leak welcomed by Metallica
Death Magnetic, the latest album from rockers Metallica, has been leaked on the Internet a week ahead of the scheduled release date of September 12. Once critical of the Internet's role in the evolution of the music industry, drummer Lars Ulrich is said to welcome the leak.
Speaking on San Francisco radio station Live 105, Lars Ulrich said: "If this thing leaks all over the world today or tomorrow, happy days."
"It's 2008 and it's part of how it is these days," the musician added.
The band has already pre-released "Cyanide", track from the new album, for download. In 2003 Metallica made headlines by launching a lawsuit against Napster for hosting peer-to-peer downloads of copyrighted music. In 2006, the band changed its tune and allowed music to be released for purchase on iTunes.
Death Magnetic will be in stores September 12.
