Did Lil Wayne Really Quit Music?
Lil Wayne Trades Music for Skateboarding
Lil Wayne told his fans that he's taking a break from music. Weezy wants to indulge his other love:
cough syrup skateboarding.
So, is Lil Wayne really quitting music?
Hahahaha, hell, no! (Though Weezy said he'd permanently retire at age 35, which I also don't believe for one second.)
Weezy, like most artists, will sooner rather than later find himself craving his creative outlet. Love him or hate him, Lil Wayne isn't boring, and he has been a much-needed shot in the arm for hip-hop.
The genre basically needs him. Weezy is a load-bearing structure.
As such a prolific artist, perhaps Lil Wayne got the idea for a sabbatical from designer Stefan Sagmeister, who advocates taking a year off every seven years.
Lil Wayne is conscious of his own overexposure: "I think fans deserve a little-to-no Wayne. I’ve been everywhere. I’ve been out on everybody’s song. I’m still on everybody’s song. My artists have been doing awesome. I believe the fans deserve some peace from me. So I’ll be on my skateboard in the meantime."
We'll be seeing another Lil Wayne mixtape soon enough, and he'll be saying Sorry 4 the Wait all over again.
