Did You Hear The One About.......
Did you hear about the Bed and Breakfast clients who wouldn't eat any of the fresh fruit provided because they had to peel it? Or the eggs from real hens they could see and talk to because they weren't in boxes with a use-by-date? Or anything that didn't come from a Supermarket in lots of packaging?
Is it true that many people have never known fresh food and wholesome products? Yes it looks that way. Fortunately the rising numbers of Farmers' Markets around the world are allowing people to have the opportunity to have an enjoyable day out, while shopping for fresh, healthy foods and products in a place where they can talk to the producers, ask questions about production and freshness, methods of growing and take home beautiful baskets of goodies that are a delight just to look at.
We can get real about our food and what we feed our kids and make sure we do that in the best way possible by buying something that has grown near where we live. It's one way to ensure our health, the health and productivity of our local community and reduce our reliance on big business and mass produced foods with little nutritional value. No wonder Dr David Suzuki calls the support of Farmers' Markets a "subversive action"! Are you adventurous enough to be subversive too?

Let me add my voice to yours. Think about your food and support the farmers' markets. Regulations in BC and Canada are increasingly strangling the small farmer in favour of agribusiness.

I did actually hear those statements a great many times, especially in North America. In some areas of North America direct Farm sales are not allowed and Farmers market are more like a supper market them self.

You may want to tag your post Farming as well, since it is about farmer markets.
