NEW YORK – A worker died after being trampled by a throng of unruly shoppers when a suburban Wal-Mart opened for the holiday sales rush Friday, authorities said.
At least three other people were injured.
Wal-Mart Stores Inc., in Bentonville, Ark., would not confirm the reports of a stampede but said a "medical emergency" had caused the company to close the store, which is in Valley Stream on Long Island.
Nassau County police said the 34-year-old worker was taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead at about 6 a.m., an hour after the store opened. The cause of death was not immediately known.
A police statement said shortly after 5 a.m., a throng of shoppers "physically broke down the doors, knocking (the worker) to the ground." Police also said a 28-year-old pregnant woman was taken to a hospital for observation and three other shoppers suffered minor injuries and were also taken to hospitals.
The dead worker's name was not released.

Stories like this make me so mad.
That poor man was killed by a mindless throng of morons so that someone's spoiled little drooling sh*t factory could get a Tickle Me Ernie that they'll forget about in a week.
The people who broke down that door should all be arrested for homicide, and these stores should be held accountable. This is nothing more than a publicly accepted, commercially endorsed case of inciting a riot.
Considering how much "Common Sense" has gone away from the public, I think it's time to end these "early bird, limited number of hot items ridiculously cheap for a limited time" sales. Every year, they've gotten worse.
I have often said it was only a matter of time before someone got killed.

I think it's time we get rid of these Black Friday sales. It is really just an accepted and sanctioned form of inciting a riot. I worked for Walmart back in high school and into college, and I've SEEN first hand this kind of madness. I'd even witnessed a manager get smashed between a door and a shelving unit while trying to open the doors on the Black Friday that the Furbys came out.
"Ok... For the next 2 hours, this new game system is going to sell for %20 less than normal. after the 2 hours, it goes to normal price. Oh... and we have one display of the item. Every body ready? and... GO!"
