Do Americans still have right to a trial?
There is a section of the Defense bill which will allow the federal government to lock up U.S. citizens indefinitely. Yes, you read that right, indefinitely, as with no trial. This does not just take a boot to the 4th Amendment's protections for American citizens. Well, to be fair, also take a boot to the 5th and 6th Amendment. Oh wait, it would allow U.S. citizens detained in the U.S. That means, under this law, the government can kidnap you and you have no right to go before a judge and say, "hey, this is wrong!"
Oh by the way, Michael Allison, of Illinois, is going to be charged with felony eavesdropping for recording public officials. This, I find completely disgusting. I am aghast that it is a crime in many states to try to hold public officials and police accountable. This is a war on our Constitution, First Amendment and freedoms. Why aren't politicans ensuring our First Amendment rights instead of waging a war on them? Demand accountability!
