Does Charlie Sheen Have a Mental Illness? Is He Bipolar and Having a Manic Episode

Over the last few weeks if not years, it's hard not to have thought, "That dude Charlie Sheen is crazy."

As Charlie Sheen has one media meltdown after another, it's hard not to wonder if Charlie Sheen has a mental illness. Of course, it's impossible to know what's going on inside Charlie Sheen's head, but some have wondered if Charlie Sheen's problems go beyond drug use and into the realm of mental illness.

Some psychologists have stated that Charlie Sheen appears to have bipolar disorder. Dr. Drew Pinsky has said that Charlie Sheen appears to be having a "manic episode."

Another psychologist says that Charlie Sheen is showing classic symptoms of bipolar disorder.

"The symptom I see is the pressured speech. [Sheen is] really pushing to get those words out; he's really on a roll. He's getting everything coming out pretty fast, almost faster than his brain can think and that's very common with people who have bipolar disorder," said Beasley.

Of course, Charlie Sheen has denied being bipolar. When a reporter asked him if he was bipolar, he said he was a "bi-winner." He also said he had "tiger blood" and "Adonis DNA."

What is the Media's Role in All This?

If indeed Charlie Sheen is suffering from manic-depressive disorder, it's hard not to wonder just how the media should handle him. Over the last few weeks, Charlie Sheen has given countless radio and TV interviews, each one more unhinged than the next. It's hard not to think that the media is exploiting a man with a real problem.

Which, of course, leaves the audience in a bit of a pinch. After all, most of us would never laugh and gawk at someone with a serious illness, but when Charlie Sheen goes off on one of his rants, it's impossible for us to look away.

Charlie Sheen is acting exactly like a drug addict and alcoholic acts in the last stages of the disease. God bless him and I sincerely pray he gets to enjoy sobriety one day soon.

Anyone who's lived with someone effected with bipolar disorder knows they'll often reject their meds that manage the manic phase, since they ENJOY the confidence and sense of superiority typified by Sheen's "you cannot stop me, I'm an Adonis, a veritable God in human form" thinking. Sheen actually poo-poohed the concept of taking meds, saying how he would be dumbed and numb, or rendered "normal, like the rest of (us)".Thing is, other people really ENJOY being around bipolars while in their manic phase, as they're TONS of fun to party with, being the life of the party. Problem is the crash that follows when the party stops...

He is textbook bipolar....Pressured speech, feelings of superiority, elevated mood and energy...It's actually really sad to watch, because if he wasn't a famous actor, people would know right away that something was wrong with him. The problem is not only the crash that follows the high, it is the consequences of the high itself...crazy spending, drug and sex binges, etc. These things can have terrible consequences, especially for someone who is so easily able to access them all whenever he wants. I really hope he gets help soon or this could turn out really sad.

He seems from his interview on CNN like he may not be familiar with bipolar disorder. How awful! It could have helped him understand himself, if indeed he has it.I think he sounds like he's manic, too. It looks pretty clear, imho.I hope he does well. And I don't want to be all in his business. He deserves privacy. I think the media has been irresponsible, for sure.

Looks and sounds like a recovering crack addict to me..Reminded me alittle of the recent Ray Charles movie 'Ray' starring Jamie Fox as Ray Charles.

The mind control folks (same ones who have invented the US Torture Matrix) could also be tampering with Sheen for daring to say that 9-11 was an inside job -- which it was. The Mil-Intel Cabal could have rehooked him on cocaine. Sheen is too popular to ignore; he has to be publicly discredited. Drugs can MAKE people act bipolar.

I feel for Charlie Sheen. He needs psychiatric care. He's unraveling in front of the nation. He's lost custody of his boys. He's showing classic bipolar mania symptoms. Remember when Britney Spears shaved her head, lost custody of her boys and was diagnosed bipolar. It's a treatable mental illness. He will still be able to act, just not so much like a jerk. I pray someone steps in and helps him before he hurts himself or someone else. --bipolartaoist
