A sad reflection of British society is domestic violence and it is not just partners of victims in abusive relationships but their dogs, often used in emotional blackmail, even though Britain is supposedly 'a nation of animal lovers' it appears to be 'a nation of domestic violence'.

In their magazine 'WAG', The Dogs Trust (www.dogstrust.org.uk)  reports that  over 500 dogs have been rescued when violent partners threaten to harm them if the victim tries to leave.  The charity states that such threats are even carried out with 'appalling cruelty'. It also says that the situation is 'growing at an alarming rate'.

Unsurprisingly, the act of fleeing means that the dogs will come to the Trust with very little so The Dogs Trust has to supply it with a bed, collar, lead and vaccinations.

Most refuges in the UK are unable to take dogs so The Dog Trust has set up the 'Freedom Project' which offers free foster care for dogs belonging to people fleeing domestic violence, which will be a temporary home until things are more settled.
