Actor Terrence Howard will not be reprising his role as Jim Rhodes in the upcoming Iron Man sequels.
After failing to negotiate a satisfactory deal with Marvel Studios, the role will go to actor Don Cheadle.
Ter[r]ence Howard has been talking up his role as Jim Rhodes in the “Iron Man” franchise, also promising reporters that Tony Stark’s sidekick would eventually sport an armor suit himself as the heroic War Machine. Jim might, but Howard won’t.The latest news from MTV Movies is that Howard will be replaced by Don Cheadle after negotiations between him and Marvel Studios broke down over financial considerations. As recently as August, Howard had confirmed his participation in Iron Man 2, saying he was preparing for the role by working out.

Marvel PURPOSEFULLY is not bringing Terrence back and it wasn't because of money. Howard had a contract, why would he need to negotiate. The director and Downey both prefer to work with Terrence. Frankly it doesn't pass the laugh test. Terrence or his team would never allow "alleged" negotiations (albeit of an existing agreement) stop them from being the first black superhero. And if Marvel truly said it was financing, why are they hiding under anonymity? One statement was "leaked" to The Hollywood Reporter and every news agency is taking it as gospel. How GOSSIP travels.
