Don't Lie - Today is National Honesty Day!

To lie or not to lie...to be totally honest or to fib maybe just a little. Today is a day all about being honest. No lies, no small fibs, just pure honesty. National Honesty Day is celebrated on April 30th to encourage people to be more honest, and to also be more accepting of honesty. So be careful what you ask people today – you may not like their answer!

There are times we’ve all be less than truthful - to avoid hurting someone’s feelings or to stay out of trouble. The truth, however, always surfaces.

Today is National Honesty Day, which is set aside to raise awareness about the importance of being honest. According to several internet sites, the day was established by M. Hirsh Goldberg, an author and former press secretary to a governor of Maryland.

The founder of National Honesty Day, celebrated each year on April 30 as a way to encourage honesty in the workplace and the marketplace and to honor the honorable, has called for a nationwide emphasis this coming year on honesty to prevent the increasing examples of lying and fraud that are harming society and damaging our nation's quality of life.

M. Hirsh Goldberg, former press secretary to a governor of Maryland and author of five books, established National Honesty Day in the early 1990s after spending four years researching and writing The Book of Lies (Morrow), which has been translated into Japanese, Korean and Chinese. National Honesty Day is now listed in Chase's Calendar of Events, a repository of special occasions found in most public libraries. April 30 was selected, said Goldberg, because April begins with a day dedicated to lying and should end on a higher moral note.

This is at a restaurant on Catalina Island off the coast of California and struck me as highly amusing. I remember they had good food, too.

the kids at this alternative school for at-risk girls painted their journey [some speaking about abuse they've come to acknowledge...others about typical broken hearts/broken dreams] on these Tshirts...and hung them across the parking lot...in an act of brave transparency...and healing

thank god, for adults who show our kids,
it's okay to think outside the box. to be honest about our vulnerabilities. and to grow strong in the places of our brokeness.

it is owning up to the reality of what each youth struggles with that helps these girls transcend becoming just another drop-out statistic. the teachers at PACE are not afraid to hear each girl's voice and to help shine a light to help guide them. right. where they're at.

nothing matters more than living a life of honesty, integrity and compassion...

...and, it all boils down to love.
